Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS Receiver and Sports Watch
This is stylish and affordable GPS watch made by Garmin, one of the leading companies in the satellite navigation field, it’s pushing the boundaries of what GPS wristwatches can do at the moment!
What is new about this Forerunner 205 is that it has the integrated, high-sensitivity SiRFstar III GPS receiver.
So what does that mean for you? It means the 205 has the ability to both track and maintain a lock on your position that is better than any previous design available in a GPS watch.
This Garmin 205 sports and GPS watch doesn’t have the same connectivity as the famous Garmin Forerunner 305, it won’t connect to a heart rate monitor or with Garmin’s wireless speed and cadence sensor, but apart from that it has great functions, performance monitoring and accurate high performance GPS location.
Obviously size wise it can’t compete with a pure sports watch, but it’s design makes it comfortable to wear and allows the built in antenna to point at the sky even when you are running. A new high resolution wide screened display offers a clear crisp display, positioned for best viewing angle as you need it.
A well-designed layout of buttons with good pressure response provides a good tactile method for operating the wide range of functions in a much simpler way than some earlier models.
Whilst the Forerunner 205 is not billed as a full GPS navigation device, it has the ability for some basic mapping, waypoint marking and routing capabilities. Additionally you are able to mark locations along your route, also you can zoom in or out of a simple map that displays your present direction and path. There is a “go to location” feature that will route you back to your starting location, or any location you have defined. With the information of the defined locations you make and save you are able to produce a route that can be kept for use again in the future.
Training Functions of this GPS Sports Watch
This is what this watch is really about and it can supply a range of data, such as distance, elevation, grade, calories burned, heading, as well as multiple lap and pace modes.
One of the useful design features is that you can easily customize the device, you choose the amount of data it records, but the greatest innovation is that you decide where it appears on the display, so if you are particularly interested in speed for example you can have that in the center of the display, you choose just how you want the data to be displayed.
A cool feature of previous Forerunners is Garmin’s Virtual Partner and thankfully they have kept this good thing going in the 205. If you are one who performs best when you have a competitor, you will love this function, it allows you to set up virtual biking or running competitor to compete against.
The 205 has a row of contacts underneath that interface with the charging and data cradle included. The cradle is both small and unobtrusive and has a single mini-USB port that connects either to an included AC adapter, or a USB cable that allows connection to your PC. As well as data transfer with the USB cable, you can charge the 205′s built in lithium-ion battery via a powered USB connection from a computer.
